String Ensemble

This was our last 7.1.4 recording we did in a larger acoustic space. The microphone setup is essentially identical to the marimba duo’s. The main system was more surrounded by the instruments compared to the narrower recording angle of the two marimbas. The extra width and variety of instruments required the addition of more spot mics. The spot mics specifically came in handy while mixing the lower pitched instruments such as the cello and double bass. These instruments lost some of the fullness their fundamentals when only captured with the main system, which was placed eight and a half feet up in the air.
