"The World" Max Patch
For the past several months, I’ve been working on a large scale MAX/MSP patch that functions generally as a means of filtering out human/mechanical sounds and create music/ambience from the nature it’s “plugged into.”
This patch includes serval components
An API that captures and documents the real-time weather information as controller data
Unique sounds for different weather aspects that vary on the season the patch is active during such as: clouds, rain, sunlight, moonlight, wind, sunrises and sets.
An API that received data from Cornell’s eBird database and creates ambience based on the bird calls of recent birds sighted in the area
A world of insect samples for night time and daytime depending on the weather.
Synthesized insect sounds that hide among the crowd of samples
The future goals for the Max Patch are to be able to hook it up to plants and read their biorhythms for more ambient music as well as lights and multi-speaker output for greenhouse installations.
I am currently working through problems with the APIs, composing music material, as well as creating FX and synthesis within MAX. I will continue to make blog posts that detail each section of the patch and clipboards so you can even try it out on your own devices! I’m so excited to continue this project here.
